St Andrew’s Church of England Primary School - 2025

Monday 20th October, 2025

"We were so lucky to receive some extra funding for our reading areas in our school from the PTFA. We recognise that having a comfortable area to enjoy a book fosters a love of reading, as well as provide a safe space for calm, peaceful reflection.

Each class was given time to browse the extensive products and choose seating options that suit their classroom environment. Since restyling these areas, we have noticed that children look forward to their time in the reading area and are taking more time to reflect and enjoy their books.

As well as promoting a love of reading, the bean bags have also allowed us to create reflection areas in each of our classrooms which gives the children a safe space to discuss their worries or concerns with a friend or trusted adult. We have noticed the children gravitating towards these areas when they are not feeling at their best and generally leave feeling much happier.

We have also been able to use our various sizes and shapes of bean bags to enhance our Nurture Space, where children with additional needs across the entire school can take time to complete their work away from the busy classroom. Film Club have loved using the bean bags to get comfortable when watching and reviewing their latest film."

What the students & teachers say:

“Since we’ve got the bean bags, we’ve had more space in the reading corner and they’re so much comfier than before. I can’t wait for my turn in the reading corner every week.” – Seth, Year 6

“I’ve liked going in the reading corner more now because it’s more comfortable and means I can concentrate more on my book.” – Freya, Year 5

“Ever since we got the bean bags, I feel more comfortable in the reflection area and I like to just go in there when I need some quiet time.” – Millie-Ann, Year 6

“They’re good chairs and they’re really comfy.” – Megan, Year 1

“They feel nice and squishy and they looks like a forest.” – Albert, Reception

“The tree stump beanbags have really enhanced our topic area, making it look welcoming and cosy and have encouraged the children to learn in the area we have set up. They are going to be an excellent addition to our reading corner as the classroom changes around throughout the year.” Mrs Cawley, EYFS teacher
